wow, I've been drawing my entire life and I haven't really tested out that many different materials, after I found ink pens I kinda stopped looking ^^; It's odd though, usually rough textured paper hinders my progress, I guess it just depends on the medium. Since you tend to try out new objects a lot do you happen to run into a few that don't actually work like you planned?
:iconbaremywords:
Oh yeah! Stick with what you know of peices you don't want to ruin! lol...found that out the hard way. :P ink pens are beautiful but I can't draw with them...scarrrrrryyyy thought not being able to erase!

I constantly run into problems with new medium. Textured paper and I didn't get along at first and sometimes still have problems together, but I have learned how to fix those little problems with other things.

I found that you have to lay down charcoal first and use pencil over top cause other wise they don't want to mix :P

White chalk pastel makes everything lighter even if you don't mean to.

White colored pencils don't mix with regular pencils or charcoal.
ect ect ect.

Everyone draws so diffferently and has their own tips and tricks its hard to learn them all. What works for me might not work for everyone and vise versa. I tend to buy lots of art supplies and then rarely use it, and later find some use for it. for example...I have TONS of paint brushes because I really wanted to get into painting...but I failed at that, so I use them when drawing sometimes...like I have water soluble graphite pencils, I tend to draw with them and go over with minimal amounts of water to darken some of my drawings, or I even use round paint brushes dry to fade out some of my drawings.
All these little tips you pick up along the way sometimes cloud your head tho :P

True, I don't want to test it on my finished stuff but you gave me a good idea, i was thinking of trying my hand at light water coloring and then defining key point with ink as a way to start trying to work outside my normal medium but if I found a way to master it I could hopefully make some extremely realistic pictures with alot less effort and time (half the time I don't update is because drawing in ink takes so much time that I have to be really motivated to do a picture)

yeah the same thing happens with pencil and ink btw.

They don't? I thought white colored pencils were meant to make lighter colors through blending?

Yeah well I don't have many tricks of the trade save for blending with ink XD. I feel your pain with the paint though, I just can't get into it because of the lack of control. If I could really focus then I'm sure I could get good enough that I fix the rest with with ink but I'm lazy when it comes to real work XP. It's great that you've found other uses for the brushes though. Honestly I've never heard of water soluble graphite before but it sounds like a transition medium... I wouldn't mind all the useful tips though, you should make a little book of those expert tips, sounds profitable if for nothing else than to remind you later on...

Ahh, well I am glad I gave you an idea. Water colors are sooo tricky but the effect that they give drawings are wonderful. My best friend :iconxmoshymccoy: works with watercolors and has a pretty good handle on them. As does my dA friend :iconkt4d: I am sure if you have any questions on them they would be able to answer you better than I.

Yeah the colored pencils I have tried have some sort of wax to them and don't mix with my graphite, they mix with the other colored pencils though. Sadly I don't do colored drawings >.<

I've always had an admiration for people that draw with ink because it seems so hard...I tried it once in high school, never got the feel for it.

Maybe I will make a little book or something on here of tips...everyone has been asking about me doing a tutorial lately (I'm lazy though) so maybe I will do that...who knows?!

Lol I'm glad too and thanks for the links (kt4d in particular had some interesting pictures) I'll make sure to contact them so I can get a better grasp on this odd medium.

I have to admit, I always wondered what exactly was being used to make coloring pencils. Coloring pencils usually don't do well with ink either so I use fine tip markers instead.

Really, I would think you had tried and succeeded with that medium already, thank you for the complement however. I agree that it's tough to draw with ink, if for nothing more than the fact that if the pen blots or some other event you don't have control of occurs, then you really can't undo it.

If you ever really feel like it then I'd certainly love to see a tutorial to your style, even if just to see how your work progresses.

Good job. Truely. The definition is amazing. . I'm definitely going to try mixing the two mediums.. my portraits look flat compared to this.
